Nice one. I like and accept the 'limitation' - or, better, context - of Shane's show. As I see it, since it is his show, it's as well to consider him as part of the band, and, as such, to consider when playing one's instrument what might work and try to make that work. Actual sound level is an issue. But I like having to consider that, too. Still possible to achieve discordancy and aggression at low levels, of course. Better that than the barn-sized uberdin of our Liquidiser jam, for me. Each has its place. But I prefer something more conversational, dialectical, less fraught. You are spot on re. differentiation between Fountain and Hurst's sheep et al. Duchamp invented the Readymade; Hurst merely made a variation. There's something corporate about Hurst - NOT a good thing! He's got more in common, for me, with, say, ASDA than Conceptual Art. Duchamp played with reality; Hurst makes adverts for Hurst, bigger and better campaigns, but still adverts. Bollocks to the lot of it! The Cremaster reference is, I think, an interesting idea. I have the film. Try to see if I can copy the bit and send to you.
