narrative-wise, it (1) will start this way. there will be music before. but these will be the first words. there will be an art-meant separation, though, between the sound the words make and their life as written-down things. meaning will only be recoverable via the latter.

Cheers Anthony. I always think of that film, 'Society' - if you know it; the people all stuck together, interpenetrating, interdependent, fingers in each other's pies. So, the names mash-up.
Thanks Anon. One important thing that happens is slavejaynie gets power, by circuitous routes. Murder is a metaphor - about cancellation, obcuring, occlusion, replacement; something narratively-generic; an old old story; second only to boy meets girl maybe. Love as palimpsest; a doggedly linear thing; no accretion; like pixel replacing pixel. No simultaneity.
A happy ending can be assumed

I agree, Molly. One of the few films from that era I really rate. Another I remember - think by same people - is 'The Stuff'. 'Society', though, I've always used as a piece of shorthand - as a symbol for the nepotistic/interbred nature of society. That's it's message of course; and the way it's delivered is a powerful and vivid piece of satire.
So, Diagram Antic 666.1 is a murder story of a kind. But I'm for Poe-style twists, and because social realism doesn't interest me - as an artist - nothing surface-wise sensical is being offered. Surrealism is always my terrain. But levels of readable meaning will be attempted nonetheless - ranging from pithy, partial stuff, as with, ie, conflating Mark E Smith and Marx, to larger mischief with the sense and form of the narrative itself.
It has to be funny.
Society, what a wonderful film ... I do enjoy a good shunt.
A classic example of how many layers of meaning - political, aesthetic, social, class-oriented - can be found in genre productions, particulaly the horror movie.

Spent the evening surfing around Half Man Half Biscuit. Remember them? I never really listened to them years ago; and knew next to nowt about them. Now I can see, they bark up my cup of tea, I can tell you. 'Joy Division Oven Gloves' ... oh yes; 'Eno Collaboration' ... ditto. Brilliant.
