Isn't he one of the founding fathers of modern primitivism?

I think so, yes. I was reminded of him whilst viewing the Leigh Bowry film at the ICA: all that posing, adopting postural attitudes, 'vogueing'. This is an incredible picture, I think. The re-enactment in Western contexts of primitive rituals leaves me cold intellectually; but I think the idea of creating other forms from one's body is interesting; and that's without an interest in that whole piercing subculture. He's doing with his body what surrealist thought attempts to do with the mind: he's a body-lateralist.
